It is easy to pass by Mr. Chukwu in any other part of Ejigbo LCDA - TopicsExpress

It is easy to pass by Mr. Chukwu in any other part of Ejigbo LCDA and not recognise him. In the medium Housing Scheme, also called Bungalow, of Jakande Estate, he is a stakeholder. That much I found out eight years ago when I was on house to house campaign to be elected the chairman of the LCDA. He doubted that I could be different from other politicians who promised and failed. I promised that I would surprise him. He made me promise to upgrade and tar Rainbow road, the main road that connects all the streets in the scheme. Although we could not achieve it in the first term, he was actively involved in our effort to fix it. In 2013, we finally delivered on that promise. And when he insisted that the community would not fix the culverts because members felt we should pick the bill, we went ahead and built new culverts to connect the streets at additional cost. That is why the news that Mr. Chukwu, after many years of meritorious service to the bungalow community, would be returning to his native homeland of Umuahia, came as a pleasant surprise. The residents of Green and Pink Streets and guests from the other streets, came together for a send-forth for this Man of the People on Saturday. It was an occasion of great emotional speeches. I was glad to be there to witness the celebration of this community leader by neighbours who had been with him for over two decades. It was also an opportunity to celebrate his wife and family who supported his sacrifice to his community. As you travel home, rest assured that the bond of friendship will be strengthened. Safe trip, our dear patriot.
