It is hard not to get depressed after visiting Dad & Mom now. I - TopicsExpress

It is hard not to get depressed after visiting Dad & Mom now. I say that without wanting to complain because they are still doing so much better than most at their age. We are all very mindful of that & thankful for it. However, it is easy to focus on the things that are depressing instead of remembering to count our blessings. I happened to visit w/ Becky this week after she had just seen Mom & Dad @ The Gardens & she got a little emotional describing how bad she felt that she couldnt do more to improve their quality of life. A couple of days later George Peacock, one of Dads few surviving true friends, came to see me after visiting Dad & Mom. He was depressed too & felt the need to talk w/ me about his concerns. Talking it out w/ Becky & Mr. George really helped me (& hopefully them) get my mind & heart back on track because we are doing the best we can by them & although they cant express it (if they can even form the thought) they would approve. They taught us how to do it. At this point just being loyal & loving to them is about all weve got but luckily they really dont need or ask more from us. One thing that we have decided to look into is getting Mom & Dad off of all their nonessential medications in an effort to see how much of their mental difficulties come from all the meds they take. I have spent a good part of my life talking w/ others about issues involved w/ aging and death. All those conversations now help me deal w/ my parents which is in turn helping me relate to others going through it. People tell me they appreciate my Facebook updates about Mom & Dad & I appreciate people caring. Thanks. Mom & Dad would appreciate it too. Before Dad got bad off he was always blown away by the love shown in Facebook comments after my updates. Merry Christmas.
