It is immensely interesting watching the infection vectors at play during CNY with my family and extended family. At least two members at this gathering have coughs and they are consciously playing cards together at a dinner table together closely. A single cough can expel infectious mist clear across the room on table and card surfaces, walls, cell phones, iPads. Theyre also sharing the devices with pictures of the mainland to one another as well. Besides my own mother, nobody else here has taken a flu vaccination. Some because they dont care, some because they dont know, some because theyre stubborn, and at least one is afraid that the vaccination will actually cause death. This is the reality of the Asian American community with regards to health and vaccination. Lessons learned with SARS at the beginning of the millennia have been long lost. Complacency over preparedness wins every year.
