It is insufficient. The world that we have inherited, is a coagulated mire, desperate attempts to solidify a place, despite the signs of decay, of dissolution. This world of rationale, of reason and meaning-forming, is nothing if not the hyperbolic assertion of territory, of privilege. As soon as an epidemic begins to clutch around the edges of society the difference disintegrates, the question of identity, of privilege, becomes unclear. What are we, that we seek to protect ourselves so desperately against the tide of need, of uncertainty and the powerful urges of faith. In our lives, we are seeking companionship, the way out of loneliness, as if there were an antidote to human suffering. Suffering itself is deeply, unequivocally part of life, and our promises made yesterday become compromised as we begin to fear contamination for that which might dissolve our securities.
