: "It is ironic that even as the struggle for human rights continues to rage around the world the right to be human is slowly hemorrhaging from our societies. Brazen shootings of innocent people often engaged in honest productive activities continue to rip families apart and stun communities. Human beings are fast becoming an endangered species at the hands of their own. A dark, ruthless force with a frightening disregard for the sanctity of life is sweeping across unsuspecting communities with malevolent viciousness; snuffing out lives and leaving in its wake inexplicable trauma and grief. Alarmingly, reductionist scholars entrusted with shaping the minds of our youth in some institutions of higher learning continue to feature with impunity articles claiming that human life is nothing but mere chemistry and that man is a product of “blind matter fumbling its unguided way through myriad different permutations,” (Lennox). The sacred is being cast aside in preference of the profane. Peter Singer from Princeton University underscores this mindset in the following invective against the sacredness of life: “Whatever the future holds, it is likely to prove impossible to restore in full the sanctity-of-life view. The philosophical foundations of this view have been knocked asunder. We no longer base our ethics on the idea that human beings are a special form of creation made in the image of God, singled out from all other animals, and alone possessing an immortal soul. Our better understanding of our own nature has bridged the gulf that was once thought to lie between ourselves and other species, so why should we believe that the mere fact that a being is a member of the species Homo Sapiens endows its life with some unique, almost infinite value?” Notice how this passage purposefully and blatantly attacks the bedrock of the dignity of human life found in Genesis 1:26, 27: “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” What Singer is saying, in essence, is that he is debunking the biblical claim of the distinctiveness of mankind as the crowning work of God and that there is no difference, as far as the value of life is concerned, between your life, my life and the life of a slug or an ant or a raccoon! Think about the implications of this for a moment. How would you like this man to indoctrinate your child with his worldview? But this is the prevalent mindset among a significant number of professors in numerous colleges and universities around the world. No wonder one wise man lamented that we have educated ourselves into imbecility. The de-sacralization of human life is the inevitable harbinger of meaninglessness, which in turn, unleashes indiscriminate and senseless violence. But we need not hold back our children from attaining higher education for fear of exposing them to such theories. Working in tandem with the One who gave them (our children) to us, we can bring them under the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and establish them in the Lord while they are still young (see Proverbs 22:6). This will instill in them eternal biblical principles that will guard their minds when they face the moral predators of our time. It will also equip them to defend the faith with courage and in the power of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord help us and our children, and make us strong in Christ Jesus to hold on to the faith until He comes." -by Dr. Reigh Simuzoshya
