It is my belief that Skilled Tradesmen (and women) such as myself (a former Pinsetter Mechanic for Bowl-Mor Candlepin Machines and Brunswick A-2 Pinsetters, A.S.Q. Certified Mechanical Inspector, C.M.M. Backup Programmer/Operator, Woodcrafts Business Owner, Machine Operator/Journeyman Manual and C.N.C. Machinist, Tinker, Computer Reconditioner, Sewing Machine Serviceman, Auto - Scooter - Motorcycle Mechanic, Appliance Repairman, and Laser Cutting/Etching Operator), my buddy Neal (A Mechanical Inspector), my buddy Randy (a C.N.C. Machinist), and my buddy Jeff (a lifetime Manual Machinist and Motorcycle Mechanic) are worth far more to society than we had ever gotten paid for or had ever been appreciated much for our special, highly technical, cumulative knowledge, expertise, and multi-talented skills. While degreed people got higher salaries, we got less, and then we always had to work killer overtime hours and weekends too, just to make a decent living and provide for our loved ones. I have met so many degreed people who are not so versatile and flexible and who have far less skills and understanding about things like computers, software, hardwares, firmwares, and very intensely scientific knowledge in using extreme amounts of apparatus, tools, and microprocessor-based machinery and creative setups to do what we do best. We must apply all of these things in our daily job performance and much more too, like trigonometry, spatial geometry in 3-D, and many more highly specialized things we need to do our jobs... yet we are treated like a bunch of damned grease monkeys by employers and the upper crust white collar people who think that we are just a bunch of brainless manual laborer cro-magnons who seem to just glide far from their workstations for no apparent reasons! Even our benefits packages had different codes for group number and class of medical coverage, and we almost NEVER had any optical or dental insurance coverage either! The world is going to know very soon just how valuable we truly ARE and always have been... and just how industrious... and many of us will have died off and been buried before we can ever even attempt to train-up the next generations of highly-skilled American Tradespeople! Dont be surprised if soon we may have to buy our missiles and other armaments from our enemies in secret clandestine 3rd-party brokered deals to even protect ourselves! I think thats what Mike Rowe tried to tell the US Senate here in this great video below about our versatility, determination to find solutions to do our jobs quickly, and mental and emotional focus we have had to do all that and more! youtube/watch?v=cC0JPs-rcF0
