It is no coincidence that Gambari government of 1960-2010 deliberately dabbled extensively in Agriculture and took over all Awolowos established Agricultural Development and Finance Corporations, including the farm settlements across the Yoruba Western Region and most of the roads leading to the farms. The farm settlements were put up as plantations for oil palm, cocoa, rubber and citrus. Many of these products were then placed on Gambaris import ban lists and at the same time only Gambari citizens were thereafter given import licences to import all these ban items into Nigeria. All the Yoruba farm settlements, and manufacturing industries were stifled with funds and raw materials. Gambari citizens import a significant quantity of the agricultural produce being produced through the Yoruba farm settlement before the Gambari government took everything over and deliberately ruined them all. Gambari government also succeeded in blocking Yoruba trade and investment that might compete with agricultural produce being imported by Gambari citizens. Gambari government also refused the Yoruba the importation of equipment for its manufacturing ventures. Weighing everything in the balance, the calculated policy of the Gambari at the taken over of all the Yoruba farm settlement was harmful to the Yoruba people and interest in the long run. Dantata, Umaru Dikko, Dangote and several other Gambari became wealthy through the import licences racket and thus ensured food scarcity in Yorubaland with the Yoruba reliance on agricultural produce from the North. Thanks to President Jonathan, who has now revived agriculture and made a Yoruba citizen Minister of Agriculture, who on his own party has revived the cocoa industry with export of more than N75 billion last year from cocoa. #ThinkYorubaFirst and in the absence of Fashola as the APC Presidential candidate... four more years for President Jonathan.
