It is one week to my fathers last funeral rites ceremony called - TopicsExpress

It is one week to my fathers last funeral rites ceremony called okwabya olumbe in Luganda. The family and clan agreed on the dates of 19th and 20th December 2014. Preparations are in full gear for the function. For many of my family members, this will be the first lumbe they will attend in their lives. Customary rituals for the dead are one area of our culture that came under direct attack of Christianity when missionaries did their mass conversions in the colonial days. Many Baganda Christians rejected the observance of last funeral rites which are believed to be demonic sites of sin and debauchery. As a die-hard believer in both Christianity and my Kiganda culture, I want to understand what is sinful about observing last funeral rites. What aspects of last funeral rites are un-Christian? Why dont Christians attend olumbe, especially the first night? Okwabya olumbe kulimu setani ki ddala? What demonic things are done during olumbe?
