From this mornings news brief: Following the violent acts of this week which have shocked the community, the Coordinating Council of Los Cabos made a strong call to the authorities to take effective steps to bring justice to our community. Julio Castillo, executive president of the Coordinating Council declared that according to the Mexican Constitution, the first right that is guaranteed is safety, which must be provided to all citizens and residents by the representatives of all three levels of government, which excludes any authority; whether municipal, state or federal, from declaring that certain acts of violence are outside of their jurisdiction. After monitoring the incidents reported to the authorities over the last 30 days the council detected 62 violent situations including armed robberies, gang violence and even the murder of a 15-year old girl in Las Palmas neighborhood. Faced with these numbers the Coordinating council gave an ultimatum to the authorities: If those in charge of the areas that must bring justice to our community can not do it, then they must leave their positions. The BCS timeshare developers association (ASUDESTICO for its acronym in Spanish) denounced that the local authorities condone acts outside of the municipal regulations for timeshare workers. All companies wanting to sell timeshare through street based promoters must have them certified and accredited to conduct this work, besides the certification the promoters must meet more requirements including having no criminal records. The municipal government authorities give the credentials, however they are allowing these people to work without the required credentials, said Jorge Tellez president of ASUDESTICO. The Association requires all companies to adhere to the municipal regulations and asks the authorities to enforce these regulations to avoid having unauthorized people working on the streets and tainting the good name of the timeshare industry. Starting January 2nd of 2014 the maximum amount allowed for checks made out to “cash” will be of 5 thousand pesos in order to reduce the risk of fraud in operations of this kind, informed the Bank of Mexico. Mexico’s central bank announced in an official communiqué that checks of amounts larger to 5 thousand pesos must be made out to a person or a company’s name that may be properly identified. This announcement was made in order to avoid problems for bank users when issuing checks for more than 5 thousand pesos.
