It is quite regrettable that the LASG’s deportation policy has triggered many to chant ethnic and tribal incantations...As victims of a needless war that saw the Igbos battered, starved, raped and exterminated in their millions, any act wearing even the flimsiest cloak of inhumanity serves as painful a reminder of their dark history. As of this morning, on Channels TV, Joe Igbokwe has recanted! He “agreed that there was a mistake on the part of the Lagos state government in deporting some Igbo persons out of Lagos state”. He also blamed the agency that carried out the exercise adding that Governor Babatunde Fashola should have done a follow up on the exercise. A word of regret or apology – like the above – would have saved all the brouhaha that this matter generated. LASG’s needless defences and counter-defences only helped conflagrate a seemingly harmless situation. ...It is hoped that hope all leaders of conscience and citizens alike will take some useful lessons out of this controversy. via Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri
