It is sad that despite the best efforts of some of us who try to impart the little knowledge we know about our African history, many of us refused to learn, are even afraid to read. In a convo yesterday, a brother I respected a lot said that we had no education and no technology prior to Europeans contact with us. This is sad as it is simply not true. Our Ancestors in Egypt left copious notes of their great achievements. They documented what they did and left monuments like the pyramids as indestructible evidence of their great achievements. How do we today say that people who built pyramids had no education and no technology? Equally sad is the confusion among Africans that the Europe we see today is the same Europe that launched its assault on us an destroy our legacies. No, it is not. 14th and 15th century Europe was in no shape to civilise anyone. It was a place where bathing, like reading and writing, was considered satanic. Our great scholars have rescued our history from the dustbin European hagiographers consigned it. Those of us with humble abilities also do our best to review their works, yet, we still have people refusing to read, yet felt compelled to inflict their ignorance on the rest of us. Below please find two links that put to paid the lie that Europe was on a civilising mission in Africa, or elsewhere. About the same time African Emperor Mansa Musa was dazzling the world with his stupendous wealth, Europeans were dying of plagues and famine. No, we do not poke fun at people, we are merely stating historical facts. 1. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Death 2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musa_I_of_Mali
