It is sad that many among the ummah today start taking positions without consulting the people of knowledge. Some pages on Jihad here on FB take no care whatsoever and go to extremes to prove their point without any research o understanding on the subject. For instance the very subject Jihad comes under fard-e-kifayah and they go to extremes to prove that Jihad is fard-e-ayn. When told about the view of scholars, they turn down the statement and refuse to accept it saying that it does not matter what a sheikh says but only what Sharia says. They literally mean to say that scholars and Sharia are loggerheads. They should take a note of the ayah of the Quran which says So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know. Surah An-Nahl (16):43. My prayers are with the Mujahideen. I myself intend o be one of them someday In Sha Allah. As for my statement of Jihad fee Sabeelillah being fard-e-kifayah, let me give you a reference from probably the best Jihad book wrtten ever. Mashari Al-Ashwaq Ila Masari Al-Ushaaq-The book of Jihad by Abi Zakaryya Al Dimashqi Al Dumyati “Ibn-Nuhaas”(D. 814 Hijri). The author is himself a Mujahid and is among the SALAf and has written this book about more than 800 years ago. He himself is a Shaheed and he was killed in a battle just 8 days after he completed this book. You may refer page 9 of the book which states: Jihad is a collective duty (fardh kifayah). (A command which is imperative upon all to perform it, but if some do perform it, it will be sufficient). That - 9 - is the opinion of the majority of scholars. In al Hidayah (Hanafi) it states that: Fighting the non-believers is mandatory even if they do not initiate war and that is according the general texts of Islam. Al Mugni: Jihad becomes an individual duty in three cases: 1) When the armies meet it is mandatory to fight and not flee. 2) If the non-believers descend on Muslim territory. 3) If the Imam calls for war it is mandatory on every able Muslim to respond.
