It is sad to state my personal experience. I love my country, and its people, but I do not like its system. I left Ireland in 2000 for a reason. A home of my own seemed unaffordable, and Im not asking for much either, merely a normal two bedroom flat to call my own at a reasonable price. My Malaysian counterpart does not earn fortunes, hes a decent man, single, hes not a millionaire he doesnt want to be. Hes a normal, decent law abiding bloke out in Ampang, a suburb quite similar in many respects to Tallaght, where I grew up. His apartment is nice, doesnt cost a fortune, I left Ireland as an outsider, and I got treated better by the Malaysians and the English than my own. I have my family who I adore, but if it werent for them, after 12 years, I do feel like a stranger in my own land. Yet there is a connection. But after twelve years out, living under my illogically created chaotic rules, I wonder where the heck I would fit in. Im still Irish, but Ive imported aspects from Asia, and Britain which could irritate rather than improvement and Im so conscious of that. Especially ....Lah.
