It is sometimes the seemingly silly actions, to the average person, which gets to me. Tonight, I had Mico take off my socks while my legs lie across him on the sofa. My feet always have socks on them, no movement = no circulation = cold feet. When he carefully sat me up, turned my legs around, held onto me...I started crying. Through the tears and my now weakened slurry voice I somehow mustered the words Do you know how long its been since my bare feet have touched the hardwood floor? I knew he understood me because tears fell down his cheeks..I told him to let me sit there for a few minutes, it felt good. You see, my tears were not solely sad tears from not being able to stand anymore but tears of gratefulness that I knew the luxury of such a seemingly silly action, well silly to the average person. Real life. Real facts. Real me.
