It is tragic but indeed true. An entire Ugandan battalion under AMISOM...African Union Mission in Somalia perished in the hands of Al-Shabaab about two weeks ago. This news was announced during ECOSOC -United Nations Humanitarian Segment. and participants present heard it with their own ears including me. For a whole battalion to perish is rare ...unless it was a completely preventable tragedy...or they were poorly trained for the battle field and sent to the front lines. Along with human rights vanguards around the world we would like to extend our condolences to the family members of this battalion whose bodies may never come home but were lying scattered over the battle field while intelligence was collected to verify that indeed an entire battalion perished. My pain is deep because the families of these men do not know this tragedy happened. May their souls rest in peace
