It is true that in the long run deposits are measured by results. But they can postpone the day of judgement. Sometimes indefinitely. And in the meantime they can do infinite harm. It is also true that democracy is no guarantee of virtue and intelligence in government. For the voice of the people is not necessarily the voice God. But democracy, by assuring the rights of opposition, offers built-in resistance to the evels inherent in obsolutism. Mans capacity for justic makes democracy possible, but mans inclination to injustic make democracy necessary.
