It is true that our ancestors, meaning going back in time not just generations, but thousands of generations, lived among many species of hominids. The different hominid groups could not co-exist because some were much more aggressive than others. The group that emerged had to be not just intelligent, but also able to out compete the others. This could be done by simply taking over resources and defending them, or by outright attack and slaughter of the other groups. I am thinking that our species was that one all determined species that was intelligent enough to take and defend resources and also attack and kill off other species to the point of extinction of the others. That is how I see us coming into our place as the top hominid species. From what Ive read, there is much evidence to support this. So, with this evolutionary past which has made us so successful, can we now turn off our own aggression, or will we find ways to label different groups among ourselves as us and them and continue on our path of destruction and extermination? That is really up to us. I am talking about our species. But can all of our species think like this? If not, we are doomed.
