It is un-Islamic to fast on the first day of Shawwal. In fact, it is defiance from the Sunnah of Nabi Muhammad (saw). It is advisable and expected of those who started Ramadan a day late (Sunday, 29th June 2014) in Nigeria to celebrate Eid today despite the fact that their fasting is just 28. However, they shall observe the remaining one fast which they missed at the beginning of Ramadan. This is our understanding of the rulings concerning Ramadan and the New Moon. If there are other opinions, we are open to learning. May Allah grant us understanding. Amin.
