It is useful to recognize that the illusion of aseparate self or entity creates a false identity whose tenacity is seemingly difficult to overcome for several reasons. One becomes enamored of this precious ‘self’, which then becomes an obsession and the subjective focus of languaging and thought. The self becomes glamorized as the hero or heroine of one’s life story and drama. In this, the ‘I’ self becomes the perpetrator, the victim, the cause, the responsible recipient of all blame and praise and the principle actor in the melodrama of life. This also requires that the self be defended and that its survival becomes all important. This includes the necessity to be ‘right’ at any cost.
