It is with a heavy heart that we announce to you the passing of Bob Sessions on May 13, 2014 at the age of 82. The very definition of a gentleman, Bobs love of life always shined through his warm smile and kind eyes. Bob, the proud father of Ben and Sarah Sessions, was also fortunate to have two wonderful women to love and be loved by; his late wife of forty years, Molly Sessions, and his wife of eleven years, Jean Arnold Sessions. It was in his own subtle, quiet way that he established himself as one of the great Winemakers of our time, and we will be forever grateful that he chose Hanzell to put his talents to use. Bob once said, ...Hanzell means the world to me. Were sort of intertwined. I dont know where Hanzell begins and I end. I think we can all say with certainty that the legacy of Bob Sessions and the future of Hanzell Vineyards are inextricably linked. For as long as anyone can remember, a poem, which we call Bobs Credo hung next to his desk in the Proprietors Office. Now more than ever, these words ring true. So when we open his bottles from our library, sit at his place in the lab, or walk in his footsteps in the vineyard, we will remember Bob as a poet, a philosopher and an honorable man. Bob will be forever missed and always remembered. Bobs Credo: Into every bottle of wine made by a vintner of the Old School went a little bit of himself. Old time wine drinkers believed that the quality of a man’s wine depended on his own quality and character. To gain lasting fame as a wine-grower, a vintner had to be a poet, a philosopher and an honorable man as well as a Master Craftsman.
