It is with great pride that I announce that as of today our (Nancy and mine) 3 1/2 hour documentary entitled Men of Truth and Courage in a forgotten war; the 17th Infantry Regiment in Korea, has now been posted on my YouTube website at youtu.be/dlF5hUKcZl4. This documentary was published seven years ago after Nancy and I spent up to two years traveling to all corners of this great country where I interviewed 47 combat veterans of what has been come to be called: the forgotten war. I had been in ROTC at City College of New York until graduation in 1955 when I was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Infantry. The war had already ended when I completed the United States Army Ranger School in Georgia and Florida, after which I spent 16 months in the 17th Infantry Regiment, north of the 38th parallel in the Chorwan Valley, as both a Rifle Platoon Leader and Asst. Regimental S-1. After completing four years of evening law school, years as an attorney, and as a trial judge in New York State, I joined the 17th Infantry Association where we met many of the veterans of the Korean War and their spouses. At that point, having had worked on documentaries for several years, we decided to do a documentary about my unit in the Korean War which had entered the war by way of an amphibious landing at Inchon which took them ultimately to the Yalu River (the only American unit to reach the Chinese border) on the day before Thanksgiving 1950 before being evacuated to Pusan after the Chinese entered the war on Thanksgiving Day. All of the complete interviews are currently on my YouTube page, but this documentary is more than just interviews. It is a complete history of the war as seen by the 17th Infantry by interviews, news clips, photographs etc. It ends at the two bloody battles of Pork Chop Hill where so many of our troops lost their lives and limbs, and a Medal of Honor posthumous recipient.. It is my sincere belief that this is the only documentary which follows the actions and experiences of a single unit from entry into the war until the truce in June 1953. Many of these veterans, our friends, have since passed, and it was time to tell their stories without having to turn to commercial publication. I can not say that you will enjoy this video, but I can assure you that the voices of these heroes will never be forgotten by you. For having done this historical video, Nancy and I were both designated Distinguished Members of the Regiment by the Secretary of the Army, although our only goal was to ensure that the voices of these great heroes will be remembered for posterity!
