It is with huge sadness that I post this message to advise you all that our campaign to save the North Tees and Hartlepool Day Nurseries has come to an end. Everyone involved has worked incredibly hard to try to change the Trusts decision and have followed every possible course of action available, but the outcome remains unchanged. It is clear the Trust never had any intention to keep the nurseries open, as evidenced by the total lack of consultation with staff and parents. The lack of regard the Trust has shown for its staff and the families who are being left without childcare is disgraceful and without conscience. They have ignored every attempt to save the nurseries, even to the extent of disregarding a feasibility study produced by their own HR department that recommended that the North Tees site remain open. If they werent taking their own advice they clearly had no intention of listening to us. Despite the uphill battle, people fought tirelessly against the closure and I would like to offer my gratitude to everyone who was involved - parents, staff, media and Unison. In particular, Unisons Mark Edmundson was amazing - we wouldnt have been able to get this far without him. I think the main issue now for Unison is to ensure that the staff are treated fairly by the Trust. For the parents, the important thing now is to secure alternative childcare for our children. I strongly feel that we can no longer afford to wait because it would be terrible to be left in a situation where all the local nurseries are full. If any parents have already started looking around and can recommend nurseries or child minders then please feel free to post on this page. On a personal note, I am devastated at the thought of moving my daughter. The staff at the nursery have become my friends and it breaks my heart to think I may not see them again. I know my daughter has grown in confidence and personality during her short time there and she will miss them immensely, as will I. I wish more than anything that we could have been successful.
