It is with profound sadness that I am made aware that the mega-talented comedian Robin Williams has died from suicide. Let me state loudly and clearly that people do not commit suicide. Suicide, rather, is the perpetrator, the enemy, that commits its atrocity against those who have the misfortune of losing their lives to this fatal symptom of depression. Depression is a brain illness that changes the chemistry of the brain and changes the way the brain itself functions. Imaging technology proves that blood flow in the brains of depressed people is severely, if not almost entirely restricted in the limbic centers of the brain which are responsible for pleasurable and executive functions, whereas blood flow is profuse in the amygdala, a part of the brain where feelings such as anxiety is expressed. My heart breaks for this talented man who lost his battle with depression and goes out to his family, friends, and fans. To my friends, dont even think about posting ANYTHING about suicide or depression that puts the onus on those who are affected by or who have died from this illness. Dont even THINK about saying anything about spiritual condition or sin. I WILL IMMEDIATELY DELETE ANY SUCH NONSENSE.
