It just came to me that Pop was diagnosed with Alzheimers right before he turned 63. I remember that I told him he would never be put in a home and I would figure out how to handle his needs. I was pretty uneducated about the disease back then and did not realize what the journey had in store for us. Many people around me during a period of time kept saying I would not be a able to handle this. Believe me when I say there were many demons with in myself that I had to overcome and still battle. Being a great care provider is understanding your the person that needs to grow and your loved one is a constant teacher of life. Alzheimers has now been part of us for 9 years and I got to say Dad, my wife and I are doing wonderful and truly know love and internal growth. We are blessed to have a more clear perspective on living.
