Hello Eva I have visited the 3 resorts Audi suggested. There is not a suitable site in St Anton although an excellent site in a nearby resort. Davos and Cortina have suitable sites although not without drawbacks. 1 Cortina. There are one or 2 small lakes hidden away in the woods, only marginally big enough, and when taking into account that part of the lake is likely to be in shadow, not really big enough. There is an ideal field close to the town centre, but it is likely to be tracked by skiers and walkers, so it would be necessary to fence off part of it, unless one was very lucky and made the drawing at night after a day of snowfall. Even then one would need to keep people and dogs off the drawing. There are other fields that look useble although not much in the public view. There is the additional problem of the low altitude, then again, the existence of the ski lifts is enough evidence that there is snow cover for a significant proportion of the winter. 2 Davos. The Davos See is much bigger than one would need, but at 1560m altitude not as high as one would like. One would need to check local expert knowledge as to the safety of the ice. Probably it is safe but not early in the winter. There is a lake at Tignes (France) where they used to walk over the ice in winter, clear an area of snow and have ice skating, at 1800m altitude, Tignes is closer to the sea than Davos so perhaps 1560m at Davos would be equally safe. Then again the snowcat fell through the ice at Tignes 2 years ago so one has to watch the weather carefully. There is a small resr high up the mountain at Davos that would do for a backup, c2300m altitude, and some flattish areas round the edges of the ski area. But it would be better to do the drawing in February or March when the ice is thickest. 3 St Anton. There is no suitable site here, there is a small resr halfway up the mountain, but not really big enough. However, there is a super lake in the neighboring resort, just over the flexenpass, which is kept open all winter, according to the man selling tickets for the lift. This is at 2100m altitude so should be as safe as the lakes at Arc2000. I dont know whether skiers cross the lake, but most likely they avoid it. PERMISSIONS AND RELATED ISSUES One would presumably require permission to walk on a reservoir, although all being well this will not be necessary anyway. One would surely need permission to fence off part of a field and ask the public not to enter it. I see no reason why one would need permission to make a drawing by walking in the snow, members of the public frequently make small drawings, love hearts, lettering informing the public who is loved by whom etc. But if one were making a drawing there would be nothing to prevent members of the pubic tracking the site, or deliberately making a mess of the drawing, which they might do if it were a commercial logo. I wouldnt want to see advertising graffiti written in the snow, and I can imagine members of the public finding it objectionable. If the drawing were done in a remote part round the edge of the resort, as some of the "backup" sites are located then we could probably work unmolested, if we were working in an area the public wanted to ski through or walk their dogs etc then perhaps we would have to bribe the powers that be, by promising a second drawing, just a beautiful drawing, for no commercial purpose? Anyway, I must get this off to you, have a think then get in touch again Simon
