It looks like Pennsylvania isn’t the only state that’s considering scrapping the property tax – Texas is heading in that direction, too. Please take a few minutes to look at this piece, “Texas Can Lead the Nation on Property Tax Reform,” that was reprinted from Forbes magazine by the Texas Public Policy Foundation: texaspolicy/center/fiscal-policy/opinions/texas-can-lead-nation-property-tax-reform. Be sure to follow the links, particularly the one titled “Enhancing Texas Economic Growth Through Tax Reform” that is a detailed study of the issue by Ardun, Laffer & Moore Econometrics. It is a bit of a detailed read but starkly illustrates why eliminating the property tax is excellent public policy. These pieces should be a must-read for all of the uninformed and politically biased opponents of House Bill and Senate Bill 76. This legislation is good public policy that makes absolute sense; it’s a shame that these short-sighted opponents can’t do what is right instead of what is politically expedient.
