It looks like they might be finally making progress with the the West Fork fire complex. The forecast winds for the next couple of days is for only 10-15 mph becoming light after 5pm.....good news. It has now burned a total of 79,182 acres between all three fires. The Papoose Fire has burned 23,605 (up from yesterday’s 20,927), the Windy Pass Fire has burned 1,355 acres (up from yesterday’s 1,244 acres), and the West Fork Fire has burned 54,222 acres, up from 52,979 acres yesterday. There were no single, large expansions of fire on the West Fork fire. Most of the growth happened in a few limited locations, one of which was at the northern edge of the fire. The Papoose Fire expanded on both it’s northwestern and eastern fronts yesterday, as well as very slightly southwestward towards Rio Grande Reservoir. The northwestern edge of this fire has become quite broken and disconnected, due to terrain features & fuel load. The only minor growth on the Windy Pass fire came along the fire’s northwestern edge as well, but it does not appear to be in an area that would directly threaten the Wolf Creek Ski Area. There are now over 1300 firefighters working to battle the West Fork Fire Complex.
