It may be that everyone is reading this all wrong. Putins target may not have been all of the Ukraine at all - yet. He may have only been after Crimea. And if thats the case, with elections being called there, and almost 5/8 of the population being Russian, It looks as if Crimea may become part of Russia. And this may be the model for what is happening today for parts of our southwest, due to immigration and the changing population ratios. The current secession movements to split California: what will happen if a part splits off and a new state is formed with a majority of the populace of that new state voting to secede, either as a new country or as part of Mexico? And what about the control of the environment in the new area? The EPA would certainly have no jurisdiction there. What would our weakened government do: defend the United States as it did before in 1861 to prevent a breakup of the Union, or honor the wishes of the people and allow secession, followed by sending foreign aid to the new government?
