It occurs to me, apropos of nothing, that Hollywood being liberal (generally) makes perfect sense. The whole point of their industry is to tell peoples stories, and you cant do that without developing a hefty dose of empathy for the people whose stories youre telling. Its one of the reasons representation is such a big deal. Conversely, financial industries being conservative (at the higher levels) also makes sense. Their whole profession is devoted to reducing people and their stories to dollars and probabilities. I suspect doing that well requires a lack of empathy, or at least an ability to mute it at will.
