It seems be be hayfever season out there at the moment.. I seem to be meeting so many people with streaming eyes and noses.. so what can we do? Here are a few kitchen cupboard remedies to try. 1. Nettle tea.. a fantastic natural antihistamine. Drink 2/3 cups a day for relief of symptoms. 2. Plantago - include plantago leaves in your salads, its a great tonic for mucus membranes, astringent yet vulnerary. 3. Sambucus or Elderflowers are great at reducing mucus.. and they are out it full bloom right now.. Harvest some flowerheads to make tea to drink hot or cold or even make up some low sugar cordial with lemons to boost your vitamin C! 4. Camomile eye-wash. Make a strong camomile tea, cool and use an egg-cup to make an eye bath or swab on to ease itchy eyes. Drink it too to help inprove digestion! 5. Increase water intake. 6. Reduce mucus forming foods like dairy products, milk especially and avoid any foods you may be intolerant to such as wheat. Eat organic! 7. Increase berries, Yum! Bioflavonoids are great at protecting mucus membranes which become inflamed. 8. Soothing essential oils such as Lemon Balm and Lavander as a steam inhalation or just sniffed on a tissue.
