It seems like an obvious observation. When winter comes, your utility bills rise. However, some NIPSCO customers choose a different option. NIPSCO offers an option called BudgetPlan Billing. Essentially, the plan spreads your costs out evenly over the course of a year. “In the winter you might be paying a little less than what your actual bill amount would be,” Nick Meyer, NIPSCO Director of Communications said. “In the summer, you might be paying a little more than what your usage might be. It’s an option that we have for customers to try to provide a little peace of mind and keep things flat for our customers. However, twice a year, NIPSCO makes an adjustment to their estimate. If you used less than your previous estimated energy, the bill for the next cycle will be cheaper. But on the flip side, if you use more than your previous estimate, than your bill will go up for the next cycle. This can make it difficult for customers who use the plan.
