It seems that todays rainfall has done a world of good in helping to reduce the forest fire index on the island. The provincial government has announced that the outdoor fire ban implemented earlier this week because of hot, dry conditions, will be be lifted as of 6 oclock this evening. Fire bans imposed in individual communities will remain in place unless otherwise announced. While the ban has been lifted, residents are still asked to use caution with open fires, particularly in the central Newfoundland region.
