It started with an almost imperceptible twitch in his right bicep. Two years later, my Dad, my all-time favorite male, a man with a perfected amount of sweet and tough, could no longer stand, walk, talk, eat or drink. He labored to take even the shallowest of breaths. He died in my home. I know more about ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) then I ever imagined I would. Ive read that some have objections to the challenge, but for me seeing ALS atop the public consciousness, however briefly, is both honoring and hopeful. Thus, I am happy to participate (thanks Caden Rogers!) with both ice water and donation in the hope that one day no other family will hear the heartbreaking news that one of their loved ones has been diagnosed with this devastating disease. Oh, and, Im calling you out boys! Chris Stephens, Kevin Courtney, Rob Ring, Michael Walker. #icebucketchallenge. Donate if you can! alsa.org/donate/
