It took 30 years for me to get my official EDS diagnosis literally - TopicsExpress

It took 30 years for me to get my official EDS diagnosis literally by pure accident! I was in a car crash on a dual carriageway. The car overtaking me span out of control, due to a burst tyre. My car was okay, but I wasnt! I had more back and neck pain, and less mobility because of this. I made a whiplash claim, and for my second medical I asked to see a rheumatologist, as by this point I had just seen one for my HMS to be recognised, and I thought they would understand hypermobility causes more problems for car crash victims..... Im so glad I did, because if it wasnt for me asking to see one, I would never have met the doctor who was taught by one of the UKs most sought after Professor in rheumatology. The rheumatologist in my medical, did the usual checks, but took a great interest in my hypermobility, skin, scars, and even inside my mouth! He asked me if I had ever heard of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, I told him I hadnt, and he told me he thought I probably have it! Well this was a pleasant shock, and an unexpected surprise! He told me to get referred to the Professor who taught him. to have it confirmed. Quite a few months later it was officially diagnosed. Thank you to Bex for sharing her story of being diagnosed by accident and how she manages with Hypermobility EDS.
