It took a long time for me (slow learner) to understand what God was trying to do in my life. For years I had lived in fear of being exposed to God. I thought that Jesus was like some kind of magic filter through which God could only see the good in me and not the bad. Was God in denial about what was true? Was Jesus just a cosmic umbrella strategically placed to cover up the defects in my life so God couldnt see them? Man that was a horrible way to live! I always felt at any moment I could run out from under the grace of my Jesus umbrella and suddenly be exposed to the wrath of God. My standing with God was all about my behavior and had little to nothing to do with His Sons. Then I learned that the covering of my sin was an Old Testament concept and that when Jesus came there was someone named John the Baptist announcing his arrival. He did it this way: Look! The Lamb of God who TAKES AWAY THE SINS of the world Wow! He doesnt cover them. He doesnt save the memory of them to whip out when you blow it; no lists with Him. There isnt going to be a YouTube video of your failings played out for all to see at the end of time. What happens is so beautiful and powerful that we can hardly believe it - our sins are gone. If you want to try hard at something today, try to believe that you are at peace with God because of what Jesus has done and not at war with Him because of what youve done.
