It was 10 degrees below 0 this morning at 7 am. By Noon it had gotten up to 3 degrees! Heat wave. Weve put out extra suet for the songbirds, upped the sunflower & safflower seed content in the feeders and this afternoon Ill put out an additional feeding station on our back porch deck. Were already providing lots of areas to get out of the weather, and theres a big stack of straw under the porch that the songbirds are snuggling into. Watching the birds at the feeders reminds me of how tough these little guys are - and how vulnerable. With another week of this intense cold to go, food and shelter are very important for our feathered friends.
