It was September, 1994 when Rachel Schacht (now Douglas) brought the art form of dance to the Town of Pine Island. She was only 13 years old. She only had a handful of kids and her rehearsals were taught in the upper level of City Hall on Saturday mornings. She taught Tap and Jazz classes. Each year her dance group grew a little at a time. She eventually outgrew her space at City Hall and in the fall of 2004 and purchased a building on Main Street, which is now Rachel Ds Dance Studio. The building has gone through a lot revision, but now is the Studio that she had visions of. As Rachel D’s takes enrollment for classes this fall, she will have done it for her 20TH YEAR!! No small feat for a small business owner in a small town. She now has multiple instructors and offers not only Tap and Jazz classes, but Lyrical, Hip Hop, Ballet and Pointe classes as well. All three of our children and many children of Pine Island have benefited from art of dance and continue to do so! I couldnt be more proud of the accomplishment that I am not sure she envisioned at the age of 13 when she started this journey. Congrats Rachel and we are all very proud of you!! Keep it going! You mean a lot to this community! Heres to another 20 Years!!
