It was a trip to my ancestral village over the weekend. I stepped down to a sheer nostalgia. I looked around to see it was more of a town now. Everything had changed. Everything? Hmm.. well that’s what I thought but soon realized that there’s something in store for me from the old world… I stood at a stall to buy some fruits for my aunt. Busy looking at which one should I go for, I felt something soft like a feather slithering over my toe. Very coolly I looked down and my eyes popped out. SNAKE!!! I stood there still and watched it disappear into one of the fruit basket and told the shop keeper about it. Someone nearby shouted “Ha! didn’t I tell you there’s a snake roaming around”. And another on my right said...”Might have come to eat the apples”. Not sure how to react, I walked steadily to my aunt’s house wondering whether I was bit or not. I remembered my grandma and mom tell me when I was kid “Our house always had snakes coiled at some corners or at the doors not sure when someone will step on it. But living here for 3 generations (or more), by God’s grace we were never bitten.” So was I. It’s been 3 days now and am still alive. Phew!!! Though I had many close encounters with snakes before whenever I visit my village.. now a town.. this was way too close. Snakes running over my feet?? Gosh!!! Sssssshhhheer… Nosssssstalgia…
