It was great to have Bomber at the RAD centre this afternoon. Bomber is a soldier in the Army and is also a 100m sprinter. In this video he is completing hurdle jumps, focussing on maximum height and minimal ground contact time. He is coming into competition period so his training intensity has gone up a level, trying to become more explosive! The more elastic the athletes muscles and tendons are the more force they are able to absorb and then re-use, saving energy and reducing fatigue. This exercise is at the high velocity end of the force velocity curve. The more explosive Bomber is the faster he will run. He has been putting in some solid work in the gym over the past 3 months increasing his strength in both the squat and deadlift. Increasing his strength increases the amount of force he can produce, and as power = force x velocity....... being able to produce greater force will impact how fast he can run!! Bomber is certainly looking forward to a solid athletics season!
