It was indeed an honor and a privilege to deliver the commencement - TopicsExpress

It was indeed an honor and a privilege to deliver the commencement address at the Housing Opportunities Commissions recent Family Self-Sufficiency Graduation. These graduates have worked hard to overcome extraordinary obstacles and become self-sufficient providers for their families. The graduates committed to a five year program that resulted in many of them attending and graduating from college and purchasing their own homes. Im so proud of them, and in their efforts, I see a reflection of my own story. I have learned from the examples of the women in my own family who had to struggle to make it and from the powerful lessons of the graduates of the FSS program, that if you believe in something greater than yourself, work hard, dedicate yourself to your family, and never be too proud to seek assistance, there are opportunities to not only survive, but thrive. The legacy the graduates will leave to their families is one of breaking the generational bonds of poverty. As I celebrate them, I am again reminded of the wise and inspirational women upon whose strong shoulders my own success stands!
