It was one of those nights when sleep would just refuse to close - TopicsExpress

It was one of those nights when sleep would just refuse to close your shop and rest you for the coming day. After struggling for quite some time, I picked up my Bible and got myself into the story of Saul and David. With a torch pouring down shafts of light, I Lay on the mattress partially enveloped in the partial darkness of the youth service room. Outside was cold and deserted. Distant drumming rose above the shrieks of animals scurrying around. Iguobazuwa presented a different outlook both in sound and sight at night. Members of cult groups take their place under the cover of darkness. I had once walked past them on my way from church. The memory of men wrapped in red and white filling the night air with tender vibrations parted through my window but met me engrossed in another world. As the distant echoes dulled, a shilling cry emanated from the southern edge of the compound. I could pick up tiny padded scuffles along the concrete corridor. It was a puppy. My landlords dog just gave birth and in that late hour, sneaked out on the poor baby. The sound it was making was more like that of distress and the mom was nowhere around. It soon marched past my door. It went down and came back. Soon the plan became clear, it was either somebody came out to attend to it or the night would be terrible for us all. I came out, poured some food and shut the door. An intense grumbling descended close to my door step and in minutes, the floor close to the quadrangle was being licked bare. It left and came back again. This time, it would not leave. When its cry was too much for me to contain, I hurried out with some more food. I sat close ready to be a companion until its mother returned. It soon became clear I was about passing the night outside. The cry started again almost as soon as I entered. This time accompanied by constant thumping of my door! Disappointment later gave way to desperation. As it was huffing and pushing in total darkness, it strayed in annoyance and fell inside a large drum full of water! I heard a loud splash followed by a choking gulp! It sank deep down consumed in shock, that was when I grabbed its feet, and out it came with a cough. I laid it down dripping profusely. It gasped some more and then gradually became calm. I was there consoling the helpless creature even as time crawled slowly towards dawn...
