It was race day at the CNG Services Grand Prix of Houston with the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda. The Indycar Series decided to bring back the chicane for the USF2000 races Danilo Estrela started P9 and was looking good for the race by gaining a few positions and setting fast laps. But with 15 minutes left in the race, Danilo would attempt to overtake a competitor (Scott Andrews) which caused them to collide into the Turn 8 wall. Unfortunately Danilo would not finish the race. Peter Portante would not have any better luck. He started out fighting for position but, on lap 3, he would get his rear tire cut by a competitor. Before he realized it was slowly leaking though, he pulled off an incredible move going 3-wide into Turn 7 overtaking both competitors. It was a very intelligent, professional move by Peter. However his undoing would be the tire. Peter finished the race in P19. Ryan Verra, over in the National Class, would have a pretty steady race once the checkered flag flew. He started in P2 and would maintain that position for the duration of the race. Tomorrow we have Race 2 at 9:45 am (CT).
