It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Oh, come on. You didnt honestly think I was going to start this story off like that did you? No. The story I have to tell is so much more than that. Theres always going to be the best of times and the worst of times. No. What I have in mind goes much deeper than that. Sure, in one sense, it was the best of times; but that certainly never held at bay any of those worst moments either. Even some moments that just are. Neither bad nor good. Just another average day. That was the kind of day it was when I met her, just another average day. I was just another average guy, hanging out with a friend at the local bar after work, doing what guys do. As we brought our second game of pool to a close and motioned for the waitress to bring beer number five to the table, I caught a glimpse toward the door just as she walked in. She was just an average looking girl, but there was something about her that made every man in the bar stop and stare. She certainly was not the glamorous type, yet her shoulder length blonde hair sparkled under the bar lights like sunshine in July. Her blue eyes glistened like the deepest of oceans and her smile cut through the dense smoke filled room and set the entire bar alight. My friend and I watched as she made her way to the bar and sat down. Neither of us could utter a single word. We were mesmerized, not so much by looks, but an energy, a certain feel of the atmosphere upon her arrival. Within seconds of her taking a seat some poor guy closed in to make his move. Slowly his lips parted as if to utter some magical words that would have her groveling at his feet. Only before he could utter those magical words, she glanced his direction and as their eyes met he was humbled in silence. He quickly looked down as if to apologize to his Queen. Though she had appeared quite simple, average; her energy was that of pure royalty, higher than that even. I didnt know it at the time, but that was the night that was to change my entire life and she would be just the girl to do it. (C.Michelle Gonzalez)
