It was the day after the new Pope had been ordained and the media were still in a frenzy trying to dig up stuff on the little-known former Cardinal. One ambitious paparazzo found his way into the Popes private chambers through an ancient map of secret passages within the Vatican. As soon as he entered the room from behind the bookcase, he heard a shower running and the Pope singing Ave Maria. He quickly hid behind the sofa and prepared his camera... Im going to be rich and famous!, he thought. The singing stopped. The shower stopped. The door opened and out stepped the Pope... Drying himself with a towel BUT there a totally soaked towel fastened firmly around his waist with a huge, golden safety pin. The young paparazzo froze at the sight and the Pope saw him. What are you doing here, my son? You must leave quickly! My guards will not take kindly to your presence! Go now quickly, in peace! The shamed paparazzo crossed himself three times and said, Thank you, oh most merciful Holy Father. But before I leave may I just ask: Why did you wear that towel in the shower? The Pope gave him a blank look for a split-second and then replied, Well, I cant very well look down on the unemployed, my son! Peace comes from being able to laugh at yourself and your religion.
