It was the day of July 13, 1931 when the Dogra forces opened fire on the unarmed gathering assembled outside the Central Jail of Srinagar, killing 21 on spot and leaving several others injured. The people had assembled there to witness the trail of Abdul Qadeer Khan who on 21 June 1931 delivered a fierce speech against the Dogra rulers and while pointing a figure towards the Raj Mahal, said ‘come and let’s raise this to dust’. As a result he was arrested on 25 June 1931, with the accusation of sedition.
