It was the fiercest battle ever fought on Canadian soil. Today is the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Lundys Lane. The battle saw over 5000 British, Canadian, and First Nations combatants march on to the battlefield along the Niagara River to halt the invading American forces in the evening hours of 25 July 1814. The result of what degraded into hand to hand fighting through the night, was hundreds killed or wounded and a stop to the American advance into Canada. Lundys Lane was far from decisive, but proved to be a pivotal British, Canadian, and First Nations victory in the War of 1812.
