It was the week before Christmas, 1969. My Dad came into the kitchen, where I was sitting at the time, with what looked like a hastily wrapped Christmas present. It was fairly obvious that it was an album. He handed it to me and said Here you go son, I`m going to give you this a little before Christmas. I could never remember Daddy giving me an album for Christmas before, so I tore right into it. It was Joe Cocker`s first album, which had just been released the month before. He had bought the album without ever hearing of Joe Cocker, only after reading the review on the back of the album. The review compared Joe Cocker`s talent with the Soulfulness of Ray Charles, and my parents were huge fans of Ray Charles... The first song that I spotted on the album, that I recognized, was Darlin` be Home Soon, which had been a hit for the Lovin` Spoonful. Dad and Mom and I became instant Joe Cocker fans. My parents have passed on, but now they`ll have a chance to see and hear Joe Cocker at that Grand Never Ending Concert in the Hereafter .......... youtu.be/GwQDgUlNOHM
