Its 8:45 am and Im already fired up. I pull up to the drive - TopicsExpress

Its 8:45 am and Im already fired up. I pull up to the drive through this morning at Starbucks and the barista informs me that the lady in front of me has bought my drink. Not being in the business of receiving charity I immediately reciprocate and offer to buy for the guy behind me. The barista says $5.50 and I hand her my card, pay, and drive off. Only my order was only $3.45. A $2 is obviously no big deal but I found myself questioning what just happened - and then getting pretty angry. How stupid is this whole pay-it-forward thing at Starbucks? Im a fairly successful workingman. I can pay for myself. Some self-righteous jerkoff buying some other upper-middle class persons cup of coffee and feeling like they are making a difference really does nothing to better the world. They just force every single person behind them make a choice: A) be an asshole and drive off with a free coffee, or B) Assume the person behind yous debt and pay for something that isnt yours. Am I the only one who cannot see how stupid this is? Theres nothing free going on here at all - just a transfer of debt. You want to do something good for the world then put those couple of bucks in a charity box. Nobody who buys a $3 cup of coffee needs you to pay for them. Just let me pay for my own damn order instead of playing musical checks. Being in a business district, I feel sorry for the guy who bought a coffee had to make that choice with the Camry full of 6 Indian sub-contractors behind him with a $40 order of coffee and breakfast. Have fun with that moral dilemma!
