Its Day 7 of the 12 Days of Movement and todays topic is: Anti-extension exercises. Traditionally, the front of the core is worked out with exercises that bring the body forward (aka. flexion exercises) such as sit-ups, crunches, etc. The problem with those type of exercise is that repetitive flexion will eventually cause deterioration of the lumbar discs and increases the chance of herniation. Instead of training the core through a range of motion, we can instead train it more safely to limit and control motion. This exercise would be considered an anti-extension exercise as it stops the spine from going into extension, therefore training the core as a good foundation for strength and power. #12daysofmovement #movementisthemedicine #antiextension #coretraining #nomorecrunches
