Its Friday night and I am being taunted by my first grader. - TopicsExpress

Its Friday night and I am being taunted by my first grader. Bullied if you will, into a project that I have done for the last 4 years. (last year we had more than one) Its October. We made it through the costume parties and I have managed not to eat every piece of chocolate candy from the Halloween buckets. Mostly, because the children have gotten smarter and have started hiding it from me. Now we are on to can food drives and Thanksgiving projects. Which brings me back to the bullying. Lord knows how much I adore my kids teachers. I really do. The kids have had and continue to have some of the very best teachers around. Then these wonderful teachers send home the dreaded dress to disguise the manila folder turkey cutout. The first year of this project was cute, even fun one might say but, now in year four and with three kids in school, my creative turkey decorating pizzazz has nearly left me. Of course, not the kids. The kids come up with things like a princess turkey wearing a ball gown and a bedazzled crown or even worse the I dont know turkey. OH THE HUMANITY of turkey decorating! We have had zebra turkeys, basketball turkeys, Native American turkeys, princess turkeys, and baby boy turkeys. One would think that this would be no big deal but then again... You dont want your kid to be the one with the lame turkey on a wall full of highly creative and fun loving crafty turkeys. It is almost like, oh your mom doesnt care about your education because your turkey looks kinda ghetto. This year I tried to persuade the turkey to be dressed as canned cranberry sauce. It is plopped out of the can cut according to the can rings left on canned sauce carcas and then left alone. NO one ever ate the cranberry sauce. But alas, I dug through my Hobby Lobby leftovers and with the help of my bully, I glued, glittered and glamourized that paper turkey. Then that little first grader smiled at me and hugged me and I knew that next year, I would do it all over again. I guess it could be worse. It could be science fair project time. *sigh*
